What Not To Say When Proposing
Some guys tend to choke up and get very nervous before they propose. If you find yourself in the moment not knowing what to say, here are some phrases to avoid:
“I never imagined myself proposing to you…” – Ouch! This will make him or her feel like you’ve never thought about them in a way they have probably thought about you.
“My last proposal didn’t go so well, so hopefully this one’s different…” – Big mistake! Focus on your future with your soon to be fiance, not your history with your ex.
“I want to spend the rest of my life with you as long as you…” – It’s too late to change! A proposal should be focused on the positive future you’re going to have together, not that your relationship still needs work.
“Since we’ve been dating so long I figured it was time to seal the deal…” – How UN-romantic is this? Your fiance wants to hear that you want to spend the rest of your life with them, not that you feel forced into proposing.
“Even though your parents never gave us their blessing…” – Yikes! If you asked his or her parents for their blessing and they said no you should probably take a step back to fix the relationship with them. Keep in mind you not only marry your fiance, but her whole family also.
