How Long Is Too Long of An Engagement

There are many factors that affect the date people choose as the day of their wedding, but there are also people who get engaged knowing they’ll never set a date. These people think that a ring is enough and there’s no point in marriage. The question is how long is too long of an engagement?

Does it make sense to give someone a ring if you never plan on getting married to them? The most typical length of an engagement is a year to a year and a half. This is enough time to plan your wedding and give everyone enough time to clear their schedule so they can make the ceremonies and parties. If an engagement is any longer than a year and a half and the topic of a wedding hasn’t been brought up you should step back at reevaluate where you want your relationship to go. If a wedding isn’t in your future that’s fine, but make sure you’re on the same page with your fiancé. If your fiancé claims to have “wedding phobia” you’re going to have your work cut out for you to get him or her down the isle.

Too long of an engagement can be detrimental to a relationship just as much as a too short of an engagement. While a long engagement makes you start doubting your fiancé’s intentions, too short of an engagement makes you rush into something that you might not be ready for. A short engagement also means a shorter time to plan your wedding which can be very stressful during a time when you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself. The stress of planning your wedding can cause problems in your relationship and put people on edge, not the mood you want to set for your wedding.
