Things to Include in Your Proposal Speech
Yes! You’re finally at the point where you are ready to propose. You have planned out how you’re going to propose with the perfect proposal idea and you managed to save a few months of your paychecks to get the perfect engagement ring. You also got your partner’s father’s blessing, have a photographer ready, got the location is set, and now it is time to figure out what you are going to say during your proposal. Though there is no right or wrong way to go about your proposal speech, trust us, you will have a lot less nerves if you plan out what you’re going to say beforehand. Putting in words how much you love someone is a tough thing to do. If you are stumped on what goes into a proposal speech below are some ideas of things to include in your proposal speech.
Why You Love Them
If you’re going to include anything in your proposal speech it’s very important that you include why you love them. Though you may know that you love your partner unconditionally, it may be hard for you to put eloquent words as to why you love them. Is it their contagious smile, or how they are so kind to everyone, or maybe it is even because they can put up with your quirks? Whatever the reason, let your loved one know that they hold a special place in your heart. You can also mention how much you love your partner as well.
How You Met
The story of how you met is always a fun thing to remember. It might have been an awkward introduction, a random run-in, or a blind date setup. Remembering when you first met will bring back all of the fun memories you have had together. Include some of your first thoughts of what you thought about them. Did you think your partner was someone you knew you were going to marry the first time you saw them? Or maybe you thought your partner was someone that you thought you would NEVER be with but eventually they won you over. Whatever your first thoughts were when you met is the very first page of your love story which will also include this very moment you’re in right now!
Favorite Memories
Include some of your favorite memories you have had together. After reminiscing about when you first met, add some memories of good times you have shared together. This could be something like your first trip together. Maybe it was the first time you met each other’s families or when you first realized you were falling in love. Bringing up these special moments will help relive those special moments that are unique to just you two and show how you two are perfect for each other.
What You Promise
After you have reminisced over the beginnings of your relationship, you can then get into the future. You can describe all of the things that you love about your partner plus any promises you have made.
Does your partner worry about going to a restaurant or movie alone? Then promise them that you will never let them go to one by themselves ever again.
Does your partner always want someone to play Monopoly with? Or it can be something deeper like your partner just wants someone to feel connected with.
These are the things that you can show your partner that you have been listening throughout your relationship and want to show that you will be there for them.
Bring up the promises that you think will mean the most.
Closing Thoughts
So there are always going to be a lot of things that you can say during your proposal speech. The issue is that most proposers try to actually memorize a speech that is about 18 pages long, front and back! That will be nearly impossible to do and will be even tougher given how much nerves you will have on the day-of.
It’s better to just think about the main topics you want to brush up on during your speech and then try to talk about them on the spur of the moment. Maybe the moment will make you think about something else. Chances are that your partner will not remember all of the things you’re saying so it’s better to just think of the biggest point.
Either way, just try to remember that this is your partner you will have for life and try to enjoy it as much as you can. You will do great!
